Description:

PURPOSE.Macular pigment (MP) is composed of two dietarycarotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin, and a carotenoid generatedby the retina, meso-zeaxanthin. There is large intersubjectvariability in peak optical density, spatial profile, and lateralextent of macular pigment, and it has been suggested thatfoveal architecture may play a role in this variability. This studyis an initial investigation of the relationship between the spatialprofile of macular pigment and foveal architecture.
