Health Promotion Agency Northern Ireland

Subject Keywords: Breastfeeding, Infant health
Type: Website
Region: Northern Ireland
Description:

Breastfedbabies.org has been designed and produced by the Health Promotion Agency for Northern Ireland (HPA). The HPA works to make health a top priority for everyone in Northern Ireland. This website forms part of the HPA's drive to promote breastfeeding as the healthiest way to feed a baby. Research has shown that while some people in Northern Ireland know about the health benefits of breastfeeding, there is still only a vague awareness among the public, including young mums-to-be, about how good this type of feeding is for both mum and baby. The first regional public information campaign on breastfeeding was launched in 2004 by the Health Promotion Agency [whose responsibilities have now transferred to the Public Health Agency (PHA)]. This campaign aims to raise public awareness about the health benefits of breastfeeding, and to encourage the general public to be supportive to mums who want to breastfeed their babies.
