Working for Change: A Guide to Influencing Policy in Ireland by Brian Harvey (2008, Combat Poverty Agency) is a handbook for voluntary and community organisations in the Republic of Ireland on how to influence the policy-making process. The guide is targeted at community development groups and organisations actively working against poverty and social exclusion.Chapters include introduction to the Irish political system and key elements from the Oireachtas to the role of ombudsman services. Also included in this Handbook is guidance on how to devise a strategy, influence the political system and use media strategies and mailing lists. Chapter four examines how a group or organisation can effectively work the political system, public representatives and public bodies to effect change.
