Three-year plan being implemented in the West

17 Oct 2014

A detailed three-year implementation plan has been drawn up by Saolta University Health Care Group and the HSE’s Health and Wellbeing Division. The Healthy Ireland Framework is being implemented across Saolta, said Bill Maher, Group CEO.

Colette Cowan, Chief Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Deputy Group Chief Executive of Saolta said: “The development of a three-year Healthy Ireland Implementation Plan for the Saolta University Health Care Group provides an opportunity to increase the health and well-being of staff, patients and the community, and also for the organisation to be a leader in creating a culture of health.”

Initiatives that are set out in the plan include self-care support programmes for patients identified with cardiovascular disease, respiratory diseases and diabetes. The Group will continue to implement the National Tobacco Free Campus policy and support patients and staff to quit smoking.

Action is already being taken on some initiatives identified under the implementation plan such as the establishment of a Patient Council and Patient Advocate Liaison Service (PALS).
