Food sources of saturated fatty acids and risk of total and cardiovascular mortality: prospective findings from the Moli-sani Study

Introduction: The international guidelines recommend a dietary intake of saturated fatty acids (SFAs) lower than 10% of the energetic daily intake, but the association of intake of SFAs and mortality risk is underinvestigated in Mediterranean populations. The contribution of food sources of SFAs is even less studied.
