[Editorial] The ongoing problem of tuberculosis in the UK

London has the highest overall rate of tuberculosis of any capital city in western Europe. Rates of multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis have doubled in the UK over the past decade, and, although most developed countries have achieved sustained reductions in the number of cases, rates in the UK continue to rise. These rather worrying statements open Drug-resistant tuberculosis: old disease—new threat, the new report from the UK's All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Tuberculosis published April 15.
