Changes in food poverty over time in the Republic of Ireland

Changes in food poverty over time in the Republic of Ireland

At the Safefood event “Food Poverty - Information for Action” held in Belfast on 21 April, Lorraine Fahy from IPH presented its work on food poverty trends for Republic of Ireland households between 2004/05 and 2009/10. Using food and non-food spending data to develop the food poverty indicator it was found that the prevalence of inadequate food spending amongst RoI households increased by 19% over time whereas the prevalence of inadequate non-food spending decreased by 12% over time.
